| Due to the
nature of our project recovery and time
sensitive software work, we do not publish the
usual long list of names that are on most
consulting companies web sites. We keep our
clients and their projects confidential.
Listed below are business sectors with the
services provided to them by Collinear
Systems. If after a review of our services you
would like a confidential discussion with some
of our current clients, please call or email
us to arrange that discussion so that you may
verify our quality and timeliness of work. |

Fighter Aircraft
Field Data Collection and Analysis -
A local major defense contractor was using a legacy
field data collection and analysis software suite
developed in Fortran, and wanted to upgrade to
contemporary middleware and database technology.
They initially contracted with Collinear to perform a
study and develop a set of recommendations for
modernizing the system. Collinear first analyzed their
data requirements, and recommended an improved
relational database schema to replace their legacy
flat-file system. We then focused on a Java-centric
middleware approach, and conducted performance
benchmarks using Java variants of their legacy
applications. The final result showed how a Java
middleware system could support their system upgrade,
and still accommodate any legacy components that could
not be ported.
The second engagement on this project was to mentor
and assist with implementation of the first release of
the system. Collinear's first assignment was to port a
problematic C++ data decompression application to
Java, and prove that Java was suitable for I/O
intensive computing. Our final delivery, developed in
just five weeks, performed faster and more reliably
than the C++ application that had been under
development for two years. |

Data Center Systems
Administration - A local
natural resources management corporation required
staff augmentation to perform system upgrades. The
original environment consisted of several HP K Class
machines running HP-UX 10.20 and HP-UX 11.00. These
machines were migrated to HP rp5470's and rp7400's all
running HP-UX 11.00.
The software environment in this data center consisted
of many HP OpenView products, various compilers and
runtimes, and Oracle products. In addition to
preparing standard disaster recovery and back-out
strategies, some software migrations had to be staged
in a lab environment subject to functionality
verification.
Over time this assistance with system upgrades
expanded into other areas. Systems security issues
were addressed with lab evaluations of systems
security auditing software where the environment was
similar to that in production and development.
Password cracking and Unix file permission evaluation
were also done.
Automated systems performance reporting was configured
as well. Utilizing Seagate Crystal Reports and HP
OpenView Reporter, these reports automatically
generate and send their output to a central repository
in html format. The information reported is compiled
from HP OpenView sources and reporting tools from
other vendors. This information is made available to
the intranet via a web server, providing technical and
non-technical personnel an insight as to how corporate
resources are being utilized. |

Intranet Application
and Database Upgrade - A
customer utilizing enterprise intranet applications
requested that we upgrade their current applications
to the latest java version and migrate to an Oracle
database. This new infrastructure would also be
required to meet the needs of an additional project.
This required additional scalability and flexibility
from the application as well as the database.
Collinear consultants analyzed the application and the
existing database. The final recommendation and
implementation was an application server upgrade and
an additional Sun Solaris 8 machine configured as an
Oracle database server. A combination of Collinear
software, database and system engineers were used to
make a successful transition. |

| Simulation and
Graphics Engineering - A
local simulation and visualization company needed
additional resources quickly to design and implement
new enhancements into a flight simulator used by a
large defense contractor. Collinear consultants were
able to implement the new changes on time and budget
and are now on a long-term contract to support the
ongoing upgrades to this simulator. |
